Under 10 Blues Deserve Better
Its getting boring to wake up to cloudy, cool wet Sunday mornings perhaps the team would cheer us up !
Sunday saw the visit of Stowupland to Greshams and with Stow second in the League a difficult game was expected
We lined up with ASHLEY in goal, supported by MARK and TYLER in defence, with SAM, OWEN and PHOEBE in midfield and LIAM up front. The Blues were easily the best team in the first half and were showing a much improved performance over last week. SAM, OWEN and PHOEBE were competing well in midfield and looking lively going forward. In defence TYLER was showing great application and cancelled out any attacking ideas from Stow. MARK was his normal assured self, meaning ASHLEY was a spectator for large parts of the half.
Despite a number of shots from the Blues, notably from PHOEBE, SAM and LIAM we were unable to take the lead in the first half and so half time saw a very unusual score line for junior football 0-0.
The second half saw the introduction of JOSH up front, TOM in midfield and CHARLIE at the back. It was difficult to know who to rest in the second half as everyone had played so well in the first half. The Blues continued the excellent play in the second half and JOSH could have opened the scoring with his first touch, but his shot went wide. The Blues deservedly took the lead when SAM won the ball in midfield, he played a lovely ball out wide to PHOEBE, who beat her man and put over a lovely cross for JOSH to beat the keeper to the ball and finish well. Unfortunately the Blues could not hold on to the lead for long and Stow were soon level when a shot from the edge of the box found the corner of the goal, giving ASHLEY no chance.
The Blues continued to press and a great effort from SAM hit the post, great corner delivery by MARK saw the Blues unable to finish and other half chances fall to JOSH and TOM. Disaster struck when Stow took the lead. Somehow the move started with a Blues corner, which was well delivered by MARK, but evaded everyone. The Stow player picked the ball up in his own half and at the end of a good run struck an unstoppable shot past ASHLEY. Still the Blues had chances to bring the game level, but today was not to be our day
Well played everyone, this was a much improved performance over last week and everyone should be proud of their efforts this week
..
Final Score The Blues 1 2 Stowupland Falcons
Man of the Match MARK HUGHES great assurance at the back and back to his best
