Under 10 Blues vs Achilles ‘B’
No rain, just the usual frost and....some funny hot thing shining in the sky....god knows what it is – perhaps there’s been a second coming ? No pitch inspections required this week the pitch was declared playable and so another visit to Sprites Lane School saw IVR Blues up against our friends from Achilles ‘B’. The only pre-match incident of note involved Norreen’s arrival at Sprites Lane – no gossip here, but she didn’t do anything to enhance the reputation of Lady drivers.....I recommend parking elsewhere if you see the burgundy Vauxhall approaching !! During the pre-match warm up we had a proper football incident – Charlie was injured....surely we are a proper football club now ! The team lined with ASHLEY in goal, TYLER and MARK at the back with KEELAN, PHOEBE and SAM in midfield and JOSH up front. TYLER stepped in to a defensive position following the unfortunate injury to CHARLIE. The Blues started really slowly and Achilles were comfortably in control of the first few exchanges, although to be fair MARK and TYLER were coping well with the lively Achilles forwards. Slowly but surely IVR got into the match, but went behind when a good move by Achilles saw a good finish by Achilles. This seemed to surprise IVR into action and for the next 10 minutes we completely dominated the game – and when you consider that Achilles went top of the League after today’s match, then the boys should be proud of their efforts !! PHOEBE began to look really lively on the right and clearly had the beating of her opposite number, SAM was combining well with JOSH who was looking really lively up front. The game was turning into a good footballing contest between two evenly matched teams. While IVR were on top we needed to take advantage and one good attacking move saw an Achilles defender turn the ball in to his own net for the equaliser – 1-1 !! Surely IVR would go on to take the lead ?? And we should have done....one move in particular saw a great cross from PHOEBE somehow missed by 3 IVR players, when it looked too easy to score. Other chances came and went and the Coaches hoped we wouldn’t regret our wasteful finishing..... Half time – 1-1 The second half saw LIAM introduced on the left. KEELAN continued his good form from last week and was looking lively in the centre of midfield, whilst MARK and TYLER were coping with most that Achilles could throw at us. However, a coupls of quick goals by Achilles killed off the contest, although the guys never gave up. TOM gave his usual all action display and could easily have had a couple of goals today. He was on the end of a good move between SAM and KEELAN that saw the ball fall to TOM in the box, but his shot was blocked. We always have a good close game of football with Achilles and so it was proving this morning. KEELAN and SAM combined well late in the game and a good shot by KEELAN was well saved by the Achilles keeper. PHOEBE worked really hard today and gave one of her best performances for IVR today. Late on MARK stepped out of defence well and joined in the play in midfield and helped to create chances late on. At the back TYLER was tenacious and made a number of telling challenges or blocks to prevent goal scoring opportunities for Achilles. Today, everyone played really well and the score is not a true reflection of the amount of play the IVR had. Unfortunately at the moment we can’t seem to score, which puts too much pressure of the defence. Had we taken a couple of the chances we created today we could easily have run out comfortable winners of this match today – but it was not to be. Finally, thanks to Achilles for being good hosts – it’s always good to play Achilles as coaches and parents are always friendly and welcoming. Also, thanks to the referee for handling the match in a fair manner today – good luck for the rest of the season and we hope to see you all at Gresham’s again soon. Final Score - 4-1 to Achilles Man of the Match – TYLER HOLLAND – an excellent game in defence ……special mention to the rest of the team though well played everyone..... Training Tuesday has been switched and is at Kesgrave 7 til 8 and our next game is Sunday 14th March at home to Moreton Hall (re-arranged from 28th February).
